To Insist Vs. To Persist
1. Русским настаивать, упорно настаивать соответствуют глаголы to insist и to persist.
Глагол to insist стилистически нейтральный и употребляется в предложной конструкции с предлогом on: to insist on smth, on doing smth.
Глагол to persist относится к более литературной лексике и включает дополнительный семантический компонент высокой степени и некоторой длительности действия — упорствовать в чем-либо, продолжать настаивать на чем-либо; он употребляется в конструкции с предлогом in: He insisted on his opinion — Он настаивал на своем мнении. Ср. Не persisted in his foolish ideas — Он продолжал упорствовать и настаивать на своих глупых идеях.
2. Глагол, зависимый как от insist on doing smth, так и от persist in doing smth, употребляется в форме герундия, в отличие от русских соответствий, где используется придаточное предложение: Не insisted on going to London — Он настаивал на том, чтобы поехать в Лондон.

Получил от Светы: «persist - упорство, настойчивость, грудью вперед - в контексте «Я смогу, я сделаю». Это не очень согласовывалось с найденным выше, поэтому я продолжил поиски. Результат ниже.

- To hold firmly and steadfastly to a purpose, state, or undertaking despite obstacles, warnings, or setbacks.
- To continue in existence; last: hostilities that have persisted for years.
